The Canon Breede River Canoe marathon is just a day away, and the picturesque valley between Robertson and Swellendam will play host to two days of frantic canoeing action as the Marathon also hosts the SA K2 river championships. After a week of heavy rain and snowfall in the region the Breede river is living up to it's name and running wide, fast and full which will ensure that the racing is fast and the margins for error are very small for the athletes racing for the national titles.
With a number of elite paddlers committed to the world marathon champs in t! he Czech republic in a fortnights time, the front row of the seeded batch will se a number of new and untested combinations lining up against more settled crews eager to take full advantage of the opportunity to make their mark.
The combination of Hank McGregor and Dawid Mocke, above, tops the list of untested river crews, and they will start as early favourites.
