NFL Week 2: Cassel Wins Debut and SD, JAC 0-2
NFL Week 2 had a bunch of great games including a coach going for 2 to win the game. We will start out however with the NE Patriots 19-10 win over the NY Jets.
Matt Cassel did not shine like a star, but he did his job and did not turn the ball over. He found Wes Welker early and often and used RB Kevin Faulk extensively as well. The Patriots showed their depth at the running back position using 4 different guys who all had an impact. Maroney, Morris, Faulk, and Jordan all had a lot of touches making QB Matt Cassel's job a lot easier. The Jets did not play awful, but this loss showed that NE is still better right now. Brett Favre could not pick apart the Pats secondary and Thomas Jones did not run wild. It was an ugly game, but that is expected in a division rivalry game. Staying in the AFC East, the Buffalo Bills upset Jacksonville yesterday and moved to 2-0. The Bills offense looks solid under Trent Edwards. Marshawn Lynch, Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish, and Fred! Jackson provide great playmaking ability for this team and it showed yesterday. The Bills were banged up last year and still had a decent record. They are healthy now and look like a playoff team in the AFC.
Sticking with the AFC for now, the San Diego Chargers fell to 0-2 after losing a 39-38 thriller to division foe Denver. SD was a favorite to win it all this year, but look like a completely different team without Shawne Merrimam. LT has been abyssmal running the ball and head coach Norv Turner looks stunned. The Chargers I am quite sure will be fine, but the Denver Broncos look as if they could win this division. Denver is now 2-0 and QB Jay Cutler is a budding superstar in this league. WRs Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal will just make him even better. Mike Shanahan is still coaching and he proved his aggresive style last night when he decided to go for 2 and the win rather than an extra point to force overtime. The AFC has a much different look this ye! ar without Tom Brady, an apparently weaker Indy team, and SD/J! AC being 0-2.
The NFC has an Arizona team sitting at 2-0 now and looking like finally they will be in the playoffs after winning the West. Seattle looks weak and SF/STL look like two of the worst teams in football. The Vikings are a surprising 0-2 as well, while Aaron Rodgers and the Packers sit at 2-0.
An interesting week in football, but plenty more to play this season.
